An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication in a high school environment. This contract position, located in Tacoma, WA, involves assisting students and staff in effectively bridging communication gaps using American Sign Language (ASL).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate real-time interpretation between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and teachers or peers during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
  • Ensure clear and accurate communication of educational content and social interactions.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to provide an inclusive learning environment.
  • Adapt interpreting styles to suit diverse classroom settings and student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language with certification or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational settings, particularly secondary education.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic educational environment.

Location: Tacoma, WA
Duration: Contract for the current school year (CSY)
