An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support communication in a high school environment. This contract position, located in Tacoma, WA, involves assisting students and staff in effectively bridging communication gaps using American Sign Language (ASL).
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate real-time interpretation between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and teachers or peers during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
- Ensure clear and accurate communication of educational content and social interactions.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to provide an inclusive learning environment.
- Adapt interpreting styles to suit diverse classroom settings and student needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language with certification or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in educational settings, particularly secondary education.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic educational environment.
