Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom activities.
  • Support individual students as well as group sessions, ensuring all participants can engage fully.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to adapt communication methods to meet student needs.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve the learning environment for students with disabilities.
  • Stay informed about developments in sign language interpretation and educational methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid EIPA certification with a score of 3.5 or higher.
  • Proven experience working with high school students in an educational setting.
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with the deaf culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and classroom dynamics.
  • Liability insurance is required prior to commencing the role.
