An opportunity is available to support a 1st-grade student in an elementary school setting as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract position involves providing effective communication access throughout the school day, Monday through Friday, for approximately 6-7 hours daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate accurate and clear interpretation of classroom instruction, interactions, and school activities for a 1st-grade student using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure the student’s communication needs are met.
  • Maintain confidentiality and promote an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
  • Assist with the student’s integration into classroom and social activities as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions related to the student’s educational plan and interpreter best practices.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with strong interpreting skills.
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred, specifically with young children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators and support staff.
  • Patience, adaptability, and excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of early childhood education environment is a plus.

  • Elementary school located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
