ASL Interpreter | Vail, Arizona

A school district in Vail, AZ is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 5th-grade student at the elementary school level. This long-term contract assignment is set to begin after the winter break and will continue throughout the current school year (CSY).

This role requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to provide clear, accurate interpretation to ensure effective communication between the student and classroom teachers. The ideal candidate will have experience working in educational settings and a strong understanding of elementary school curricula and environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate communication by interpreting classroom instruction, discussions, and interactions for a 5th-grade student who uses sign language
• Support access to all academic content and social interactions within the school environment
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to create an inclusive learning atmosphere
• Adapt interpretation style and vocabulary to align with the student’s developmental and academic levels
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certification preferred
• Previous experience as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting, ideally with elementary-aged students
• Familiarity with special education guidelines and school policies
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
