A K-12 school in Waynesboro, PA is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter for a contract position through the current school year (CSY). This role involves facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and other school personnel to support a productive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and effective American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Assist in bridging communication gaps to ensure student access to curriculum and participation in school activities
- Collaborate with educators, students, and families to support language development and academic success
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions
- Adapt to various instructional settings and student needs throughout the school day
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret educational content accurately
- Experience working as a sign language interpreter within K-12 educational settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
- Knowledge of K-12 curriculum and instructional strategies is beneficial
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a school environment
