Located in Terryville, CT, this contract position offers an opportunity for a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support elementary students’ communication skills essential for academic success and social interaction. The role is designed for the current school year (CSY) and involves working within an elementary school setting.

Primary Role: The SLP will evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech and language disorders, helping them fully access the school curriculum and participate in classroom and social activities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct speech, language, voice, and fluency assessments to identify communication disorders.
  • Screen students and interpret evaluation results to determine eligibility for services under IDEA.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
  • Provide direct therapy targeting articulation, expressive/receptive language, social communication, fluency, and other areas.
  • Deliver indirect services such as classroom consultation and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with educators, therapists, psychologists, and families to support student communication.
  • Maintain thorough documentation including assessments, therapy sessions, progress notes, and IEP reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations related to speech-language services.
  • Participate in prevention and early intervention programs.
  • Educate staff and families on communication development and strategies.
  • Recommend and support the use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices as needed.

Typical Caseload:

  • Students ranging from preschool to high school with diverse communication challenges including articulation, language delays, fluency, voice disorders, and pragmatic/social communication needs.
  • May serve one or multiple school sites depending on district requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP-CCC) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience working in school-based settings preferred.
  • Strong skills in assessment, therapy implementation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
