A specialized contract opportunity is available for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) within a K-12 private school setting focused on serving students with significant cognitive and behavioral challenges. This role is based in Queensbury, NY, approximately 45 minutes north of Albany, and runs from ASAP through the end of the school year (EOSY).
The school serves 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms, each with an 8:1:3 student-to-teacher-to-aide ratio. The student population primarily consists of Level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, and severe behavioral needs. Most students utilize alternative communication methods and are non-verbal, requiring specialized therapeutic approaches and communication strategies.
Position Details:
- Location: Queensbury, NY
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM
- Employment Type: Contract through end of the school year
- Student Population: Students with severe disabilities in self-contained classrooms
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide assessment, individualized therapy, and ongoing progress monitoring for students with complex communication needs
- Collaborate closely with teachers, paraprofessionals, and multidisciplinary teams to support student communication goals
- Develop and implement augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies tailored to non-verbal students
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports compliant with school and regulatory standards
Qualifications:
- Valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Experience working with students who have Level 3 autism and significant cognitive and behavioral challenges
- Skilled in AAC and alternative communication strategies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working within interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt therapy approaches to meet diverse and complex student needs
