This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support students in an Elementary School setting within Chicago, IL. The focus is on teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade students in a self-contained Life Skills classroom, providing specialized instruction tailored to individual student needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead classroom activities and deliver direct instruction in individualized and small group formats
- Manage student schedules for inclusion in general education classrooms
- Implement behavior intervention plans to promote an organized and participatory classroom environment
- Collaborate with related service providers to apply accommodations, modifications, and support goal achievement
- Supervise and direct Educational Support Professionals in their roles with classroom students
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Licensed as a Special Education Teacher with LBS1 certification or equivalent
- Experience working with self-contained Life Skills classrooms at the elementary level
- Ability to design and implement effective individualized education plans and behavior interventions
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and related service providers
- Demonstrated leadership in managing classroom support staff
Schedule and Duration:
- Contract position spanning the current school year from ASAP through June 6, 2026 (tentative)
- Full school days from 7:55 AM to 2:55 PM daily, with some Mondays extending until 3:55 PM
- Includes a 30-minute duty-free lunch break each day
