A comprehensive opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher to support students in grades 6 through 12 at a public therapeutic day school in the Chicago, IL area. This contract position runs for the current school year (CSY) and focuses on delivering specialized education to students with emotional disabilities, including anxiety, depression, school avoidance/refusal, and trauma backgrounds.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Providing academic instruction and emotional support within a therapeutic educational environment.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote student progress and wellbeing.
- Managing a caseload of up to 8 students, ensuring attention to each learner's goals and challenges.
- Maintaining clear and consistent communication with families and staff.
- Adhering to the school schedule: staff hours from 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM with a 30-minute duty-free lunch; student hours from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Qualifications and experience sought:
- Certification in Special Education with experience teaching K-12 students.
- Knowledge of emotional disability characteristics and strategies to support students facing trauma, anxiety, and depression.
- Strong classroom management skills appropriate for a therapeutic educational setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
