A Special Education teaching opportunity is available within an elementary school setting in Dayton, OH, tailored for educators dedicated to serving students with diverse learning needs. This contract position for the current school year (CSY) focuses on delivering individualized instruction and fostering inclusive learning environments for students requiring specialized support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Intervention Specialist License (Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Intensive, or K-12, aligned with student population)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IDEA and IEP processes
  • Ability to implement individualized instruction with accommodations and modifications
  • Experience with progress monitoring, data collection, and formative assessments
  • Proficiency in behavior management and developing behavior intervention strategies
  • Strong collaboration skills for teamwork with general education staff and families
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • Background in inclusive education, co-teaching, Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Training in behavioral interventions such as PBIS and BIP development
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive curriculum tools
  • Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards Extended (OLSE) for students with significant cognitive disabilities
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities, valued but not mandatory

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
  • Deliver direct academic, social-emotional, and functional instruction and interventions
  • Modify curricula and assessments to meet individual needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models
  • Use data-driven approaches to monitor progress and adjust instructional strategies
  • Administer academic and behavioral assessments and manage Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Facilitate and document IEP meetings, Evaluation Team Reports, 504 meetings, and related conferences
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Utilize assistive technology and specialized instructional strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education regulations
  • Engage in professional development opportunities around intervention and special education best practices
  • Promote a supportive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students
