An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher to lead a Self-Contained Life Skills classroom for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students at an elementary school. This contractual assignment offers a chance to work closely with young learners, providing tailored instruction in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students individually and in small groups, based on their unique needs.
  • Lead all classroom activities, ensuring lessons align with individualized education plans.
  • Manage schedules for students’ inclusion time within general education classrooms.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and maintain organized, effective classroom management.
  • Collaborate with related service providers to integrate accommodations, modifications, and ongoing goal work.
  • Supervise and direct Educational Support Professionals assigned to the classroom.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Licensed Special Education Teacher certified to teach Life Skills students (LBS 1).
  • Experience working with self-contained classrooms for early elementary grades (Kindergarten-1st Grade).
  • Ability to apply behavior intervention strategies and manage classroom behavior effectively.
  • Strong collaborative skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and leadership in directing classroom support staff.

Location and Schedule:

  • Position located in Des Plaines, Illinois.
  • Contract duration: Current School Year through June 6, 2026 (tentative end date).
  • Daily schedule: Monday–Friday from 7:55 AM to 2:55 PM, with some Mondays until 3:55 PM.
  • Includes a daily 30-minute duty-free lunch.

Interview Availability:

  • November 25: 12:00 PM–1:00 PM and 1:30 PM–2:30 PM
  • December 3: 8:00 AM–9:00 AM
  • December 4: 11:15 AM–12:15 PM
