Empower young learners while making a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive elementary environment. This contract opportunity offers full-time hours working alongside dedicated professionals committed to creating inclusive and encouraging classrooms. You’ll guide and nurture students within developmentally delayed and mildly intellectually disabled programs, helping them reach their full potential through patience, structure, and collaboration.
As an integral member of the team, you’ll work on-site within established program classrooms, each supported by a paraprofessional, and participate in regular planning and meetings to ensure the best possible educational experiences for every student.
Qualifications & Experience
- Active South Carolina teaching certification with a multi-categorical endorsement required
- Experience supporting children with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
- Skilled in behavior management and de-escalation strategies
- Comfort collaborating with general education teachers and participating in PLCs
- Understanding of special education program requirements, including IEP/ED plans
- Capable of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
- Previous experience in elementary school special education settings is a strong plus
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver effective instruction tailored to students with developmental delays and mild intellectual disabilities
- Manage and de-escalate classroom behaviors utilizing proactive techniques
- Collaborate with general education teachers during weekly PLCs and with program directors monthly
- Assist in the creation and implementation of individualized education plans
- Foster a safe and nurturing classroom environment
- Work closely with paraprofessionals for day-to-day support
- Maintain documentation and consistent communication with staff and families
