A K-12 school in New Haven, CT is seeking a special education teacher to support a resource special education class for sixth graders. This contract position is available for the current school year, covering a maternity leave from approximately May 4th through June 12th.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of about 20 students within a resource special education classroom setting
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to meet the academic and behavioral needs of special education students
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and participate in team meetings
  • Adapt instructional strategies and materials to support diverse learners

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid special education teaching certification
  • Experience teaching middle school students, preferably sixth grade
  • Strong understanding of special education laws and best practices
  • Wilson Reading System training is highly preferred but not required
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative school environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Duration: Contract through the end of the current school year (tentative maternity leave coverage)
