An opportunity is available for experienced Special Education Teachers to support students in a specialized private school setting focused on Level 3 autism and severe cognitive and behavioral disabilities. This role is fully onsite in Queensbury, NY, a short 45-minute drive north of Albany, and the assignment runs from ASAP through the end of the school year (EOSY).
The school serves 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms, each maintaining an 8:1:3 student-to-staff ratio. The environment supports students who are mostly non-verbal and use alternative communication methods. Available openings include:
- Secondary (High School/Adult) Special Education Teacher: Working with pre-vocational students up to adult age.
- Intermediate (Middle School) Special Education Teacher: Working with some pre-vocational students and a more academic focus.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with no formal planning periods. However, time spent beyond regular hours for paperwork, IEPs, and lesson planning will be approved up to 40 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) is required.
- Bachelor’s degree candidates will be considered, but a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Level 3 autism, severe behaviors, or students with alternative communication and medical needs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with alternative assessments and curriculum modification is also preferred.
This is a contract position with competitive pay ranging from $35 to $50 per hour. Tax-free stipends and higher pay rates may be available for qualifying travel candidates.
