A K-12 educational opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position serves a diverse student population on Chincoteague Island, VA, focusing on specialized instruction tailored to meet individual communication and learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction and interventions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in alignment with individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists to ensure integrated support.
  • Utilize assistive technologies and communication strategies such as sign language and auditory training.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation for program evaluations.
  • Participate in parent conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to support student success.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification in Deaf Education, Hearing Impairments, or related fields.
  • Experience working with K-12 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or alternative communication methods.
  • Strong understanding of auditory and speech development techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instructional materials and methods to various learning styles.
