A part-time teaching opportunity is available for an educator specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing support at an elementary school level. This role focuses on providing tailored instruction to a 3rd grade student who uses cochlear implants and primarily relies on verbal communication but whose family desires increased use of American Sign Language (ASL) in daily learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized educational support to a 3rd grade student with hearing impairments.
- Incorporate ASL instruction alongside verbal communication strategies to enhance the student's language skills.
- Collaborate with family members and school staff to align instructional approaches with the student's needs and goals.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods to optimize learning outcomes.
- Attend school activities related to the student's educational development on assigned days.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) or equivalent credentials.
- Experience working with elementary-aged children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and understanding of cochlear implant use.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with families and educational teams.
- Commitment to a positive, supportive learning environment.
Work Schedule and Location:
- Part-time position supporting the student two days per week (Monday and Thursday).
- Located in Demopolis, Alabama.
- Assignment runs for the full current school year, starting as soon as possible.
