This position involves providing specialized educational support for a 3rd grade student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing in an elementary school setting. The student has cochlear implants and primarily uses verbal communication but is encouraged by the family to incorporate American Sign Language (ASL) into daily interactions. The role requires a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) to work part-time, focusing on supporting the student’s communication and learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instruction and support to enhance the student’s language development, including both verbal communication and ASL skills.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and parents to integrate effective communication strategies and ensure continuity of learning.
  • Monitor and assess the student’s progress, adjusting teaching methods as needed to meet educational goals.
  • Provide counseling and resources to families regarding communication options and accessibility.
  • Attend relevant meetings and contribute to individualized education plan (IEP) development and implementation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf or equivalent specialized training.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of cochlear implant users’ needs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills.
  • Ability to work part-time, specifically two days per week (Monday and Thursday), throughout the full school year.

This is a part-time assignment scheduled for two days per week, starting as soon as possible and continuing for the entire school year.
