Teacher of the Deaf in Detroit, MI

An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated professional specializing in services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This contract position is based in an engaging educational environment in Detroit, MI, and runs from August 19, 2024, to October 11, 2024, with the possibility of extension based on performance and team fit.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Special Education.
• Valid Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement.
• Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience.
• Knowledge and experience with hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive technology.
• Ability to conduct Functional Listening Skills assessments.
• Proficient in American Sign Language and other manual communication methods.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct services to a mixed caseload of students aged 0-26.
• Collaborate with Special Education supervisors and staff to enhance student learning.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in alignment with best practices.
• Offer professional development and consultation to colleagues as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and accommodations.
