Qualifications:
- Valid California Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) licensure is required
- Previous experience working with students who are blind or have visual impairments, in a school-based environment, is highly valued
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills for partnering with families, multidisciplinary team members, and school staff
- Strong knowledge of adaptive or assistive technology, and willingness to implement individualized strategies
- Ability to develop and adapt curriculum materials in accessible formats
- Commitment to advocating for inclusive educational practices and accessibility
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and ongoing support to K-12 students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
- Assess student needs and progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation per educational requirements
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Recommend, implement, and support the use of assistive technology and braille materials
- Engage with families and caregivers to promote student success both in and out of the classroom
- Participate in professional development and stay current with evidence-based practices in visual impairment education
