Located in San Jose, CA, this opportunity serves K-12 students with visual impairments within a dynamic school district. This contract role runs from ASAP through the end of the current school year, offering 32.5 contracted hours per week.

The position supports students from Pre-K through age 22, managing a caseload of 20-25 individuals with varying degrees of visual impairment. Most students have visual impairment as their primary disability. The role is itinerant, spanning multiple district sites, requiring effective case management, including service coordination for students receiving only visual impairment services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments
  • Managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using the SIRAS system
  • Collaborating with the district’s Alternative Media Specialist, who provides adaptive materials and oversees equipment and Braille resources
  • Ensuring consistent, onsite presence to replace the previous virtual provider (remote work is not permitted)

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
  • Experience working with students from Pre-K to age 22 with a range of visual impairments
  • Strong case management skills focused on individualized student needs
  • Familiarity with adaptive technology and materials for visually impaired students preferred
