This opportunity is for an experienced educator specializing in visual impairment services within a K-12 school district in Watsonville, CA. The role supports students from Pre-K through age 22 across multiple sites district-wide, providing vital instruction and case management for students whose primary disability is visual impairment (VI).
The position is a contract role starting as soon as possible and continuing through the end of the current school year. It requires 32.5 contracted hours per week, offering direct, on-site services only, replacing a previous virtual provider. The caseload includes approximately 20-25 students with varying degrees of visual impairment severity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with visual impairment
- Managing Individualized Education Program (IEP) case files using SIRAS
- Collaborating with an Alternative Media Specialist who provides adaptive materials, equipment, and Braille resources
- Conducting case management for students receiving only visual impairment services
- Traveling itinerantly across district sites to serve students
Qualifications and experience:
- Certification or demonstrated experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Strong knowledge of VI instructional strategies and assistive technologies
- Experience managing IEPs and providing case management for students with visual impairments
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple caseloads district-wide
- Commitment to on-site service delivery, no remote or virtual options
