School-Based Speech-Language Interpreter (SLI)

Position Type: Full-time (School may renew for the next school year)

Location: Lake Zurich, Illinois

We are currently seeking a dedicated and qualified School-Based Speech-Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our team in partnership with a school district near Lake Zurich, IL. Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation services for students with hearing impairments or communication disorders in an educational setting
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and other professionals by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate modes of communication
  • Assist students in understanding and participating in classroom activities, discussions, and assessments
  • Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
  • Support students' social-emotional development and inclusion within the school community
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided and student progress
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities as required

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a School-Based Speech-Language Interpreter (SLI) or equivalent
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modes as required
  • Experience working with students with hearing impairments or communication disorders preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the individual needs of students
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and communication devices is a plus
