Special Education Teacher (K-12)| Alaska- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Position Overview:
As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in providing specialized instruction, support, and accommodations to students with disabilities across various grade levels. You will collaborate with colleagues, families, and other stakeholders to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, as well as specialized instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Use data-driven assessments to monitor student progress, set goals, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure that students with disabilities are fully included in the school community.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies for support.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and other special education-related meetings as required.
  • Stay current with best practices, research, and trends in special education to continually improve instructional practices and student outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid Alaska teaching license with a Special Education endorsement (K-12).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting, preferably in a K-12 environment.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting the diverse needs of all students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in meeting the changing needs of students and the school community.
