Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and certified Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities. The successful candidate will develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with state standards and foster a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to meet the needs of each student.
- Employ evidence-based instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, administrators, and other support staff.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including IDEA and New York State Education Department (NYSED) policies.
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and classroom management techniques.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Licensure and Certifications (Required in New York):
- Initial or Professional New York State Teaching Certification in Students with Disabilities (appropriate grade level):
- Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)
- Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6)
- Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12)
- Completion of an NYSED-approved teacher preparation program.
- Passing scores on the Educating All Students Test (EAS) and applicable Content Specialty Test (CST) for Special Education.
- Completion of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) training.
- Fingerprint clearance through the NYSED Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA).
Additional Skills:
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and IEP development.
- Proficient in assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of behavior management systems and social-emotional learning techniques.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) or proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
