Job Description: Special Education Teacher 

 


Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, helping them achieve their educational goals. The teacher will work closely with parents, general education teachers, and support staff to create and implement effective educational programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in various subjects, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet each student's needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to provide inclusive classroom environments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, behavior, and any relevant interventions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and success.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to support positive student behavior and learning.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement is required.
  • Passed the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA) or other state-approved content exams for Special Education.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety is required.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working as a Special Education Teacher is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and intellectual disabilities.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective instructional strategies for diverse learners.
  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support student learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators, support staff, and families.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to adapt to changing classroom environments and student needs.
