Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Special Education Teacher to work with students with varying disabilities. The ideal candidate will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), collaborate with colleagues and families, and promote a supportive learning environment.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to provide comprehensive educational support.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and compliance with IEP goals.
  • Stay informed on special education laws and best practices.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure and Certifications (Required in Colorado):

  • Colorado Initial Teacher License or Professional Teacher License with an endorsement in Special Education Generalist (Ages 5-21) or Specialist.
  • Completion of a state-approved educator preparation program in special education.
  • Passing scores on the Praxis exam or the Colorado PLACE exam for Special Education Generalist.
  • Completion of the required coursework in Exceptional Learners and related content areas.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong understanding of IDEA, 504 Plans, and IEP processes.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in technology use to support instruction and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Training in behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
