Soliant is pleased to announce two full-time Special Education Teacher positions in a well-established school district near Newport News, Virginia. These positions offer the opportunity to make a significant impact on the education and development of students with diverse needs. One position will involve teaching high school students in a self-contained classroom, while the other position will focus on elementary school students. Responsibilities:

For the High School Self-Contained Classroom:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for high school students with special needs.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and accommodations to address students' diverse learning requirements.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all high school students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to ensure comprehensive educational plans.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, regularly adjusting teaching strategies and goals to promote growth.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to support high school students with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including IEP documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues to address academic and developmental needs.

For the Elementary School Self-Contained Classroom:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for elementary school students in a self-contained classroom.
  • Provide specialized instruction and support to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where all elementary students feel valued and respected.
  • Work closely with students across different grade levels, adapting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Collaborate with support staff and other educators to provide a comprehensive educational experience.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions and goals to promote growth.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and colleagues to address students' academic and developmental needs.
  • Maintain accurate and organized student records, including IEP documentation.

Qualifications:

  • A valid Virginia teaching license with Special Education Certification.
  • Strong commitment to providing high-quality education and support to students with diverse needs.
  • Previous experience working in special education is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and other professionals.
  • Dedication to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
  • Availability to work full-time, 37.5 hours per week, to support the educational needs of students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work with students of varying ages and abilities.
