Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Special Education Teacher to provide essential support to our community college program in a moderated to severe setting in Orange County, CA. This position is a maternity leave coverage with a high likelihood of extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction to students, adapting curriculum and teaching methods to meet individual needs.
  • Collaborate with support staff, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of IEPs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Special Education Teaching Credential.
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a team.

This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with special needs in a community college program. The initial contract is for maternity leave coverage, but there is a high chance of extension, and the possibility of a permanent hire may be considered.
