We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our school district in Pittsfield, MA. As a member of our dynamic team, you will have the chance to empower students with visual impairments and provide them with the necessary support to thrive academically and personally.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to visually impaired students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Assess student needs and develop appropriate educational plans
  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and materials to facilitate learning, including Braille, assistive technology, and tactile resources
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Adapt curriculum materials and modify instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as necessary
  • Foster independent living skills and promote self-advocacy among visually impaired students
  • Attend IEP meetings and provide input regarding the specialized needs of visually impaired students

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or willingness to obtain certification
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and other specialized instructional techniques for visually impaired students
  • Experience working with students who have visual impairments or disabilities (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Dedication to meeting the individual needs of visually impaired students and promoting their success
