Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Our team in Pittsburgh, PA is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team. This position is for the extended school year, with the possibility of renewal for the next school year. Job Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Assess student needs and develop appropriate educational plans and goals
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the unique learning needs of visually impaired students
- Teach essential skills such as braille reading and writing, adaptive technology usage, orientation and mobility, and independent living skills
- Collaborate with other educators, related service providers, and parents to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive educational experience for visually impaired students
- Monitor student progress, track data, and prepare progress reports
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Pennsylvania with a specialization in Visual Impairments or Blindness
- Experience working with visually impaired students is preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of instructional strategies, assistive technology, and accommodations for visually impaired students
- Familiarity with braille and proficiency in teaching braille to students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
