Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Full-Time

Location: Pittsfield, MA

Are you a dedicated and passionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) looking for an exciting opportunity to support students with visual impairments? We are currently seeking a talented TVI to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring access to the general curriculum
  • Assess students' individual needs and develop and implement appropriate educational plans
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement effective strategies and accommodations
  • Teach skills related to Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, adaptive technology, and independent living skills
  • Modify curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with visual impairments
  • Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional plans as needed
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and provide input on goals and services
  • Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers regarding best practices for inclusive education

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
  • Massachusetts certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment for students with visual impairments
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments, including knowledge of Braille and orientation and mobility techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Passion for supporting students with visual impairments and promoting their independence and success
