Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Full-Time
Location: Pittsfield, MA
Are you a dedicated and passionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) looking for an exciting opportunity to support students with visual impairments? We are currently seeking a talented TVI to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring access to the general curriculum
- Assess students' individual needs and develop and implement appropriate educational plans
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement effective strategies and accommodations
- Teach skills related to Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, adaptive technology, and independent living skills
- Modify curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional plans as needed
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and provide input on goals and services
- Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers regarding best practices for inclusive education
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Massachusetts certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment for students with visual impairments
- Experience working with students with visual impairments, including knowledge of Braille and orientation and mobility techniques
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Passion for supporting students with visual impairments and promoting their independence and success
