Cath Lab assists the Physician in performing a variety of specialized procedures.

 Cath Lab demonstrates proficiency in the use of a variety of minor and computer-related equipment. Additional expectations include, but are not limited to, room setup, patient positioning, and patient screening.

Client Preferred and Optional: Associate degree in a related field.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Must have sufficient training and knowledge in Cath, EP, or IR or direct patient care experience in a healthcare-related field to take calls for the department upon completion of orientation.

Requirements:

Satisfactory completion of formal training in an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology and able to meet requirements for registry by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

• One-year special procedure experience or experience in cardiac Cath preferred.
• Certified in CPR
• Available for emergency call-back after normal working hours.
• Knowledge of radiographic and physiologic monitoring, and other related equipment used in cardiac Cath lab.
• Ability to deal tactfully with people and develop good working relationships.
• Able to adapt and vary work routine as needed and willing to cross train in related job areas.
• Clinically proficient in Cath lab procedures demonstrating a knowledge of the developmental needs of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
• Work Experience: At least 2 years of experience

Responsibilities:

• Performs multiple interventional and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures under the direction of the cardiologist or other specialized physician, including operating cardiovascular and radiographic equipment and sterile field assistance.
• The technologist will also be responsible for physiologic monitoring (ECG and B/P) and evaluating patient status throughout the procedure.
• May have access to contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Clean and shave the insertion area before the procedure begins and monitor the patient’s heart rate and other vital signs during the catheterization.
• Cath tech job description also includes cleaning equipment, updating medical records, and moving and lifting patients, if necessary

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification provided by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification provided by the American Heart Association.

Registered Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification
