We are seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team for the current school year. This is a full-time contract position in a school-based setting. The ideal candidate must meet all requirements set by local and state regulations. Experience working with special education students and families is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with parents, administrators, and other professionals.
  • Provide direct instruction to students with diverse learning needs, adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate their individual abilities and learning styles.
  • Assess students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral progress regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and intellectual disabilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on students' progress and collaborating on strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of students' progress, including IEP documentation, progress monitoring data, and behavioral records.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education from the state of Connecticut.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage classroom behavior and create a supportive learning environment.
