CT Technologist Duties

As a CT technologist, you play a very special role in the smooth functioning of the radiologic department of the hospital or health facility. Your skills are valued, and you can be expected to work in a team of physicians and technicians on a daily basis, while flexing your skills and performing necessary tests to ensure patient treatment and health. Some of the primary requirements of a CT technologist include taking x-ray images of tissue, bones, blood and organs, as well as processing these images with a team in order to create accurate diagnoses and treatment plans. A CT technologist uses computed tomography to locate specific areas inside the body that need proper assessment and diagnosis. The CT technologist helps take cross-sectional images through x-rays that may not be able to be seen on MRIs or other types of medical equipment.

CT Technologist Education Requirements

A CT technologist is required to have a certificate or an associate’s degree in radiologic technology or a similar field. While a higher education is not required, it is highly recommended that the prospective CT technologist earn a bachelor’s degree in the same field of study. Most states in the U.S. require the proper licensure for practice, and this certification can be earned through voluntary participation in the exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
