Interventional Radiology Tech Duties

A highly specialized branch of radiology, interventional radiology is a minimally invasive image-guided procedure to diagnose, treat and cure various conditions. IR Techs are responsible for controlling the technology devices that reveal the interior of the human body to support physicians and healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. Primary responsibilities include setting up and operating equipment needed for minimally invasive procedures.

Interventional Radiology Tech Requirements

IR Techs can earn either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited program. In addition, passing a certification exam from the state or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT Radiography Exam). Specific requirements may vary according to state. Continuing education minimums will also be required to maintain certification.

Travel IR Tech Jobs

As a travel IR Tech, duties remain the same although some requirements may vary according to which state your assignment is located in. Typically travel assignments will be short-term contract positions, giving you the ability to travel to new areas often. Travel IR Techs are often filling in for a team member who is on temporary leave or filling in to give the healthcare team time to fill the position permanently. In some cases, travel positions have the potential to become long-term permanent positions if there is a need and desire for it.
