Step into a pivotal role supporting K-12 students as a contract Assistive Technology Specialist, providing on-site expertise in assistive and augmentative communication (AAC) devices and strategies. Based near Berkeley, CA, you'll collaborate with educators and therapists to empower students in accessing curriculum and classroom environments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid state certification and educational licensure required
  • Previous experience as an Assistive Technology Specialist, focusing on K-12 populations
  • In-depth knowledge of assistive technology and AAC solutions for diverse student needs
  • Ability to conduct and document functional evaluations
  • Skilled in developing and writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborative approach to working with occupational therapists, physical therapists, and teaching staff
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for managing due process requirements

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver itinerant support across K-12 settings, including evaluations and consultations on curriculum modifications, classroom accessibility, and the integration of AT/AAC devices
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify students’ assistive technology requirements
  • Generate thorough, individualized recommendations to enhance student participation and achievement
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, documenting progress and adaptation of AT tools as needed
  • Serve as a resource for school staff, providing training and guidance on effective use of technology
  • Ensure compliance with district and legal due process requirements through meticulous documentation
  • Foster an inclusive, accessible learning environment through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

This contract opportunity offers a full academic year schedule, working 37.5 hours per week, and requires presence on-site only.
