Bring your expertise in assistive technology to a rewarding setting supporting students across grades K-12. This full-time, contract position centers around working 1:1 with students and educators, directly impacting the learning journey for those with visual impairments. As part of a dynamic school environment, your role will focus on transcribing braille and providing essential technology solutions alongside teachers of the visually impaired (TVIs) throughout the academic year—excluding a traditional summer break, but with scheduled time off during major holidays.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification or licensure as an Assistive Technology Specialist
  • Experience supporting students in grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12
  • Strong background in 1:1 student support, particularly with assistive technology
  • Proficiency in braille transcription, especially for use by TVIs and students
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication, organization, and record-keeping skills
  • Passion for providing equitable educational access

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe assignments, classroom materials, and instructions into braille
  • Offer training and ongoing guidance in the use of assistive devices and software for students and staff
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to ensure accessibility
  • Partner closely with teachers, TVIs, and support personnel to fulfill students’ individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor progress, maintain documentation, and adjust interventions as needed
  • Remain up-to-date on best practices and advancements in assistive technology
