This full-time, contract opportunity focuses on 1:1 support, fostering communication and learning for students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Located conveniently near Oxnard, CA, you’ll be a valuable resource for children in need of tailored support to enhance their access to instruction and daily school activities.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 2:15 PM (32.5 hours per week), allowing you to make a difference while maintaining work-life balance.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proven experience supporting students using AAC devices in an educational setting
- Familiarity with a variety of assistive technology (AT) tools that facilitate communication and access to curriculum
- Knowledge of elementary-level educational needs and challenges
- Strong collaboration skills to partner with classroom teachers, specialists, and families
- Ability to adapt tools and strategies for individual student needs
- Problem-solving mindset and a passion for empowering students to express themselves
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student using AAC devices during instructional and non-instructional activities
- Guide and train staff and families in the effective use of assistive technology in the classroom
- Troubleshoot device and software issues, ensuring the student has consistent access to communication supports
- Contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams regarding appropriate AAC/AT recommendations and progress updates
- Adapt learning materials and classroom activities, ensuring full student participation
- Track and document progress, collaborating with the wider student support team
