Health Information Manager in Livingston, MT

A dynamic opportunity is available for an experienced Health Information Management professional to lead daily operations and compliance initiatives for a critical healthcare department. In this contract role, you’ll serve as the designated Privacy Officer, guiding HIPAA privacy programs and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of protected health information.

Schedule:

• Full-time: 1.0 FTE (40 hours weekly)
• Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
• Six-month contract

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee medical records management, release of information, chart analysis, coding oversight, and patient portal workflows
• Direct the facility’s privacy program, including HIPAA compliance, privacy investigations, breach assessments, audits, and regulatory reporting
• Develop and maintain privacy-related and HIM policies and procedures
• Manage departmental budgeting, staffing, productivity, compliance, and quality standards
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders: Compliance, IT, Patient Financial Services, Registration, HR, Administration, and clinical leadership
• Lead privacy monitoring, educational programs, and process improvement initiatives
• Respond to and resolve privacy incidents, ensuring appropriate reporting and corrective actions

Required Qualifications:

• At least two years of medical coding experience
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA privacy standards, release of information, and healthcare compliance
• Recognized healthcare privacy, compliance, or HIM certification preferred (e.g., CHPS, CHPC, CHC), or willingness to obtain one
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and with integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or similar fields
• Experience in Critical Access Hospital or Rural Health Clinic settings
• Understanding of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and healthcare regulations
