Take on a pivotal leadership opportunity guiding health information management within a reputable healthcare facility on a six-month contract. In this essential role, you will manage all daily operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department and serve as the designated Privacy Officer, ensuring the highest standards of patient data quality, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance. This assignment offers a weekly range of $2700 – $3000, supporting professionals with skills in medical coding and health information privacy, ready to contribute in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Schedule:
- Full-time: 40 hours/week
- Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (5x8s)
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee medical record management processes, including release of information, chart completion, coding, and patient portal workflows.
- Lead the organization’s HIPAA privacy program, including privacy investigations, breach assessments, audits, and required reporting.
- Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures related to HIM and privacy to guarantee the security and integrity of health information.
- Manage departmental staffing, budgeting, productivity, and quality standards.
- Maintain proficiency in medical coding and monitor compliance with federal and state guidelines.
- Serve as the Custodian of Medical Records, ensuring proper use, access, and release per regulatory standards.
- Collaborate closely with Compliance, IT, Patient Financial Services, Administration, and clinical leadership.
Preferred Background:
- At least 2 years of hands-on medical coding experience required.
- Prior leadership in HIM, privacy, compliance, release of information, and preferably, experience in Critical Access Hospital or Rural Health Clinic environments.
- Healthcare privacy, compliance, coding, or HIM certification (such as CHPS, CHC, CHPC) preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare discipline is desirable.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
