Step into a critical supporting role assisting surgeons and ensuring patient safety in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). This contract position offers hands-on involvement with a variety of complex cardiothoracic procedures, including CABG, valve replacements, VATS, and robotic chest surgeries. As a valued member of the OR team, you will observe strict sterile technique, collaborate with nursing and surgical staff, and directly impact patient care and outcomes.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Day rotation, Monday–Friday (40 hours/week)
  • Start times typically between 6:00am and 7:00am
  • Option for 5 x 8-hour shifts or 4 x 10-hour shifts weekly
  • Call requirements include up to 3 shifts per week (8–16 hours each)
  • One working weekend and call shift per 4-week period
  • 13-week assignment

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA credentials)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Previous experience as a CVOR Tech with extensive exposure to cardiothoracic cases (CABG, valve replacements, VATS, robotic chest procedures, etc.)
  • Proficiency with infection control standards and surgical scrub techniques
  • Strong understanding of sterile technique and instrument handling

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain aseptic environment and anticipate surgeon’s needs during procedures
  • Assist with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments
  • Keep organized and accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments
  • Ensure proper preoperative and postoperative care of instruments and supplies
  • Identify safety hazards within the OR and communicate proactively with staff
  • Offer expertise to new OR personnel, demonstrating professionalism and teamwork
  • Expedite room turnover and maintain operational efficiency
  • Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled
