This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Surgical Technician skilled in preparing and assisting during surgical procedures. You will play a critical role in supporting surgeons by selecting, handling, and passing surgical instruments and supplies, while maintaining a sterile environment. The role demands attention to detail, agility, and a strong understanding of aseptic techniques within the operating room.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to procedures, ensuring everything is in good working order.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating surgical equipment during cases.
- Apply principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout surgeries.
- Participate in counting and handling sharps, sponges, and instruments, and assist with OR turnover, including cleaning and restocking.
- Maintain accurate surgeon preference cards and pick lists.
- Perform tasks according to established policies, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards.
- Support department operations by carrying out assigned administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or at least two years of operating room experience preferred.
- Manual dexterity and ability to maintain composure in high-stress, emergent situations.
- Familiarity with safety procedures related to specimen handling, medication labeling, radiation, laser safety, and infection control.
