This opportunity is for a Registered Nurse with experience in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) nursing, located in Omaha, NE. This contract role involves caring for a high-acuity patient population recovering from complex cardiac surgeries and advanced vascular procedures. The unit manages patients supported by devices such as Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO, requiring expert critical care skills and the ability to titrate various drips including vasopressors, paralytics, and sedatives.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current RN license with at least 1 year of CVICU experience caring for complex cardiac and thoracic patients
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Ability to titrate medications and interpret cardiac telemetry independently
- Skilled in managing patients on advanced mechanical circulatory support devices
- Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within a 50-mile radius
- Valid driver’s license required for radius compliance
- Willingness to comply with facility policies including no artificial nails and passing a mandatory skills exam
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide high-level critical care in an 18-bed CVICU with a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Manage complex postoperative cardiac and vascular patients including those from cath lab and structural heart programs
- Monitor and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and read own telemetry strips
- Collaborate with in-house intensivists and hospitalists present 24/7
- Float to other inpatient units as needed, excluding Maternity and NICU
- Work 12-hour shifts (06:30-18:30 or 18:30-06:30) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
