A specialized opportunity is available for an experienced ICU nurse skilled in cardiothoracic care, working in a progressive hospital environment. This contract position offers valuable hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) with advanced equipment and a supportive interdisciplinary team.

Situated in scenic Cape Girardeau, Missouri, this facility provides access to a vibrant community along the Mississippi River with rich history, outdoor recreation, and comfortable small-town living. Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care by assessing patient conditions, establishing care plans, and implementing nursing interventions
  • Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
  • Monitor and document patient progress, revising care objectives as needed
  • Care for patients recovering from heart surgery including CABG and neuro cases such as stroke and brain surgery
  • Float to ICU and progressive units as necessary, adapting to varying patient care needs
  • Comply with unit policies including scrub color and infection control protocols, including flu vaccination adherence during flu season (Nov 1-Apr 1)

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license with at least 1 year ICU or CTICU experience
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Expertise in cardiac and open heart postoperative care, specifically CABG patients
  • Familiarity with advanced life support equipment such as CRRT machines, balloon pumps, Impella, and PrismaFlex
  • Competent, flexible team player with a strong work ethic

Schedule & Contract Details:

  • Evening shift: 7 pm to 7 am
  • 36 weekly guaranteed hours with option for 48 hours
  • 13-week contract duration
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend and expectation to work at least one major winter holiday
  • Up to 5 days approved time off per contract
