A professional opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical-Surgical/Acute Care with experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, and General Surgery. This contract position is located on a med-surg unit that primarily cares for post-operative surgery and medical overflow patients.

Location:
Based in Bessemer, AL, this role is situated within a 42-bed unit known for its supportive clinical environment and cutting-edge technology such as Alaris infusion pumps, Omnicell medication systems, and EPIC electronic medical records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough post-operative assessments to monitor patient recovery and detect complications early.
  • Manage pain effectively using evidence-based protocols to support patient comfort.
  • Provide skilled wound and drain care to promote healing and prevent infection.
  • Occasionally float to like units within scope, including nearby facilities within a 25-mile radius (optional based on need).
  • Adhere to professional standards and unit policies, including dress code compliance (navy scrubs, no fleece).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Active RN license with at least 2 years of experience in Med-Surg/Acute Care.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
  • Proven skills in post-operative care, pain management, and wound/drain care.
  • Ability to manage patient ratios averaging 5-6:1 in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Flexibility to work nights and every other weekend on a 3x12-hour shift schedule.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and alignment with unit values through the BH 4 Cs (Compassion, Communication, Collaboration, Competence).

Shift & Schedule:

  • Nights, 36 guaranteed hours per week.
  • Every other weekend scheduled.
  • No call responsibilities.
