Step into a dynamic medical-surgical/telemetry environment within a top-tier facility recognized as a Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital. This contract opportunity offers the chance to provide expert care to a diverse patient population while working alongside an interdisciplinary team supported around the clock by hospitalists, intensivists, RTs, and a Central Telemetry Unit.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7A–7P or 7P–7A
- Rotating weekends: 5–6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
- Required to work one shift for each major holiday (Thanksgiving/Day after, 12/24 or 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1)
- No on-call requirement
- Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
Qualifications:
- Active RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
- BLS certification required; ACLS and Medical-Surgical certification preferred
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation, with Basic Cardiac Rhythm exam required upon hire
- Skills in trach care, chest tube management, IV therapy, wound care, post-op monitoring, and telemetry
- Strong assessment skills and ability to manage acute and chronic medical conditions (heart failure, sepsis, kidney injury, cardiac procedures, diabetes)
- Comfortable floating to similar adult units
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe, thorough nursing care to a 1:4–6 patient ratio
- Initiate and manage PIVs, central lines, and associated infusions (including insulin/heparin drips)
- Collaborate with care team on discharge planning, patient education, and interdisciplinary coordination—especially for renal patients
- Monitor and interpret telemetry; support cardiac, respiratory, and renal patients
- Document efficiently in EPIC EMR and utilize facility equipment (Pyxis, Alaris, Philips monitors)
