This contract role in a 30-bed MedSurg/Tele unit provides the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in a Level 1 Trauma and Teaching Hospital setting.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts, 7A-7P or 7P-7A
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts out of 12 (per 6-week schedule)
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday coverage rotation: one shift per major holiday (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1)
Key Qualifications:
- Active RN license and current BLS certification required
- 2+ years of recent Med/Tele RN experience
- Will consider first-time travelers
- ACLS and Medical-Surgical Certification preferred
- Competence with cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, strong assessment skills, and med-surg clinical care
- Ability to pass EKG competency exam
- Skilled in IV insertion/care, central line management, wound care, PIV starts, post-op monitoring, and care coordination
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions including heart failure, A-Fib, COPD, sepsis, post-op complications, and co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient discharge planning and education, particularly regarding renal and fluid management
- Perform trach care, manage drips (insulin, heparin, select cardiac medications), and oversee groin and chest tube management
- Employ advanced EMR, cardiac monitoring technology, and medication dispensing systems (EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis)
- Float as needed to adult med-surg/tele units across the hospital
