Deliver exceptional patient care in a dynamic medical-surgical/telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital. With an active census of 30 beds, this fast-paced environment provides the opportunity to treat a diverse patient population, including those with acute and chronic illnesses, post-operative conditions, and multiple co-morbidities such as diabetes, heart failure, respiratory complications, and kidney disease.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts: 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m.
- Weekend rotation: 5–6 weekends per 12-shift cycle (every 6 weeks)
- No on-call requirements
- Must be available to work one shift for each major holiday listed
Qualifications:
- Active RN license; BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years’ Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- Will consider first-time travelers
- Must pass EKG (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam
- ACLS preferred; Med-Surg certification preferred, not required
- Proficient in trach care, chest tube management, central and peripheral IV care, wound and post-op care, cardiac monitoring, telemetry, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drips, and care coordination
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough clinical assessments and provide evidence-based nursing interventions for complex med-surg patients
- Initiate and manage cardiac telemetry and closely monitor for changes
- Administer medications, start IVs, and manage central lines
- Participate in discharge planning, focusing on renal and fluid management
- Collaborate closely with CNAs, unit secretaries, resource nurses, hospitalists, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Float as needed within adult med-surg/telemetry units
