Advance your nursing career in a dynamic, high-acuity environment at a respected teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation and 637 licensed beds. This Med/Surg Telemetry contract position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population—ranging from post-operative orthopedic and spinal cases to acute and chronic medical conditions—on a busy 23-bed unit, with support from CNAs, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalists, and intensivists.
Schedule/Hours:
- 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A)
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts out of 12 (per 6-week schedule)
- No on-call requirement
- Holiday coverage: one shift per major holiday set
Qualifications:
- Active RN license
- At least 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
- BLS certification required
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (will need to pass EKG assessment)
- ACLS preferred; national med-surg or nephrology certification is a plus
- First-time travelers are welcome
Essential Skills:
- Clinical assessment in a trauma setting
- Telemetry interpretation, cardiac monitoring
- Experience managing chest tubes, wound vacs, trach care
- IV insertion, central line care, PIV starts
- Experience with insulin, heparin, and select cardiac drips (non-titratable)
- Strong care coordination, discharge planning, and patient/family education
Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional care to patients with complex medical and surgical needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for best patient outcomes
- Monitor and assess vital signs, manage equipment (Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, EPIC EMR)
- Educate patients on disease management and post-discharge care
- Float as needed to other adult med/surg or telemetry units
