Advance your nursing career in a dynamic, high-acuity environment at a respected teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation and 637 licensed beds. This Med/Surg Telemetry contract position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population—ranging from post-operative orthopedic and spinal cases to acute and chronic medical conditions—on a busy 23-bed unit, with support from CNAs, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalists, and intensivists.

Schedule/Hours:

  • 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A)
  • Weekend rotation: 5-6 shifts out of 12 (per 6-week schedule)
  • No on-call requirement
  • Holiday coverage: one shift per major holiday set

Qualifications:

  • Active RN license
  • At least 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
  • BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (will need to pass EKG assessment)
  • ACLS preferred; national med-surg or nephrology certification is a plus
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Essential Skills:

  • Clinical assessment in a trauma setting
  • Telemetry interpretation, cardiac monitoring
  • Experience managing chest tubes, wound vacs, trach care
  • IV insertion, central line care, PIV starts
  • Experience with insulin, heparin, and select cardiac drips (non-titratable)
  • Strong care coordination, discharge planning, and patient/family education

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients with complex medical and surgical needs
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for best patient outcomes
  • Monitor and assess vital signs, manage equipment (Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, EPIC EMR)
  • Educate patients on disease management and post-discharge care
  • Float as needed to other adult med/surg or telemetry units
