Provide expert nursing care on MedSurg and Telemetry units in a Level 1 Trauma Teaching Hospital setting with a strong focus on patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration. This contract position in Milledgeville, GA invites Registered Nurses with Med/Surg and Telemetry experience to contribute to the care of patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions, including cardiac, post-surgical, and complex co-morbidities.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients on inpatient MedSurg units (20-36 beds per unit), managing a patient load typically ranging from 4-6 per RN.
- Perform skilled tasks such as tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, and cardiac rhythm monitoring.
- Administer and titrate drips including insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine.
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams, facilitate discharge planning, and provide patient education.
- Float between MedSurg and Telemetry units as needed to support fluctuating patient census.
- Utilize EPIC for documentation, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitoring equipment, and VS3 vital signs monitors.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid RN license with a minimum of 2 years experience in MedSurg and Telemetry nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Strong competency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
- Proven skills in time management, patient assessment, and care coordination.
- Certified MedSurg nurse credentials are a plus.
- Successfully pass EKG competency exam during onboarding.
Schedule and Work Environment:
- 12-hour shifts: 7 AM – 7 PM or 7 PM – 7 AM.
- Rotating weekends: 5-6 shifts every 6 weeks.
- Holiday coverage includes working one major holiday shift per holiday period.
- No on-call requirements.
- Free parking available; scrub color Navy for RNs.
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, resource nurses, and 24/7 hospitalists and intensivists.
- Orientation includes 1 day facility introduction and 2 days departmental training.
