Provide specialized care in oncology nursing at an acute care hospital recognized as a Level I trauma center. This contract position offers a day shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week (7:15 AM to 6:45 PM) with every other weekend required. The role focuses on a 24-bed oncology unit with an average daily census of 24 patients, demanding expertise in chemotherapy and IV therapy administration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administering chemotherapy, including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral routes
  • Handling body fluids and managing cytotoxic spills safely
  • Monitoring patient response to chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
  • Accessing and caring for ports, central lines, and PICC lines
  • Administering blood, blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals
  • Collaborating with the medical team and possibly floating within the nurse’s scope of practice as needed
  • Maintaining accurate documentation using Cerner electronic charting system

Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois nursing license or in the application process
  • Minimum one year clinical experience; first-time oncology nurses are also considered
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred
  • Proficient in IV therapy and infusion skills

Schedule and work environment details:

  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts, 7:15 AM to 6:45 PM
  • Weekend rotation: every other weekend
  • No on-call duties
  • Ability to float within scope as required
  • Parking permit required but provided at no cost
  • Must be able to accommodate travel restrictions of ideally no more than 5 days off during assignment
